Soleirolia, commonly referred to as Baby's Tears or Mind-your-own-business, is a charming genus of tiny-leafed creeping plants renowned for their lush, moss-like carpet appearance. The genus includes a single species, Soleirolia soleirolii, prized for its delicate foliage and ground-covering habit. Soleirolia plants are popular as houseplants, terrarium fillers, and fairy garden accents.
Thrives in low to medium indirect light. Avoid direct sun, which scorches the delicate leaves; it tolerates shade well but grows leggy in very low light.
Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the surface feels dry; it dislikes drying out and may collapse without steady moisture.
Use a rich, well-draining potting mix with peat or sphagnum for moisture retention. Add perlite for aeration to prevent rot.
Prefers cool temperatures from 50°F to 70°F (10°C to 21°C). High humidity above 60% is essential; mist regularly or use a pebble tray.
Apply diluted balanced liquid fertilizer monthly during spring and summer. Skip in winter when growth slows.
Trim to control spread or rejuvenate leggy growth. Divide overcrowded mats annually to refresh.
