Dactylorhiza, the 'marsh and spotted orchids', are terrestrial orchids of temperate regions with palmately lobed tubers and dense spikes of pink to purple flowers, often above spotted leaves. They grow in damp meadows, marshes and grassland, are cold-hardy, and hybridise freely. Geophytes dormant in winter.
