Maxillaria tenuifolia produce fiori rosso scuro con macchiature vicino alla base e emette un forte profumo di cocco, che le dà il suo nome comune. Forma grappoli trafilati di foglie erbose e è una coltivatore intermedia popolare e facile.
Bright, indirect light, similar to Cattleya/Oncidium. Good light encourages the often fragrant flowers; avoid harsh direct sun.
Water thoroughly while in active growth, letting the medium approach dryness between waterings. Reduce a little once growth matures; these epiphytes dislike staying soggy.
Free-draining epiphyte mix of medium bark and perlite; many clump-formers also do well mounted or in baskets.
Mostly intermediate, 15–28 °C with a night drop; high humidity (50–70%) with airflow.
Feed weakly weekly at quarter to half strength during growth; flush periodically.
Remove spent spikes and dead roots; divide only large clumps. Non-toxic.
