Una pianta annuale bassa a foglia succulenta coltivata per i suoi vividi fiori simili a rose che si aprono al sole; ideale per contenitori caldi e asciutti.
Full sun — at least 6–8 hours — for the flowers to open and the plant to stay compact; the blooms close in shade and on dull days. A true sun-worshipper.
Very drought-tolerant: water when the soil is dry and sparingly overall. The fleshy leaves store water and rot if kept wet. Excellent for hot, dry spots and containers.
Light, sandy, very free-draining soil. Tolerates poor soils.
Loves heat 20–35 °C; frost-tender annual in cold climates. Prefers dry air.
Needs little — a light feed at planting is enough; over-feeding gives leaves at the expense of flowers.
Pinch to encourage branching and more flowers; self-seeds readily. P. oleracea (purslane) is an edible, non-toxic succulent.
