Do not fertilize the soil - it kills these bog plants. They catch their own insects in the tall pitchers; no feeding is needed if grown outdoors.
Trim dead pitchers and leaves in late winter before new growth; remove the flower if you want to favour pitcher growth. Stand the pot in a tray of rainwater/distilled water during the growing season - never use tap water (minerals are toxic).
