An evergreen shrub or small tree in the family Rubiaceae, the source of most of the world's coffee, also grown as a glossy-leaved pianta di appartamento.
Bright, indirect light; protect from harsh direct sun, which scorches the glossy leaves. Good light supports eventual flowering and berry production in mature plants.
Keep the soil consistently moist during growth, watering when the top 2 cm dry out. Coffee dislikes both drying out (leaf droop and browning) and waterlogging. Reduce slightly in winter.
Rich, slightly acidic, ben drenante mix with peat/coir and organic matter.
Warm, 18-26 °C; keep above 13 °C. Loves HIGH humidity; dry air causes brown leaf edges.
Feed every 2-4 weeks in primavera e estate with a equilibrato fertilizer, ideally one for acid-loving plants.
Prune in spring to control height and encourage bushiness. ⚠️ All parts contain caffeine and are tossico per pets if eaten; the raw beans are also not for consumption untreated.
