Ludisia discolor is the classic jewel orchid, grown for its velvety dark maroon-to-black leaves with shimmering coppery-red or gold veins. A creeping warm terrestrial of shaded forest floors, it is easy in low light and humid, humus-rich conditions, and bears small white flowers in winter.
